About
Lampedusa and Linosa, with their 6,490 inhabitants, form the southernmost municipality in Italy. The two islands, together with Lampione and Conigli, form the Pelagie archipelago. An ancient settlement, Lampedusa and Linosa boast a history dating back to the first voyages in the Mediterranean, and have always been a bridge between peoples, languages and cultures. The first official and permanent settlement dates back to before the unification of Italy, in 1843. Lampedusa and Linosa have been celebrated worldwide for representing the values of maritime societies and welcoming visitors with solidarity. Today, the islands are a tourist destination for visitors from all over the world, but the local community continues to be linked to a culture of fishing.
