West Lesvos Municipality

Greece

About

The Municipality of Western Lesvos is one of two municipalities on Lesvos, Greece’s third-largest island, located just five miles from the Turkish coast. It includes 36 villages spread across 1,072 km², with a population of 24,721. The mix of lowland and semi-mountainous terrain supports a rich variety of ecosystems, home to numerous plant and animal species. Forests, streams, wetlands, volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, thermal springs, salt pans, Natura 2000 protected areas, and hundreds of kilometres of coastline all contribute to the region’s distinctive, largely unspoiled character. Our work is dedicated to preserving this natural heritage—our environment, our culture, and our way of life.
