The anniversary celebration of the Marktmusikkapelle Straß brought together musicians, local residents, and visiting bands in the municipality of Straß in Styria for a community-driven festival that combined musical tradition with a strong commitment to sustainability. Through the active involvement of young musicians and participants from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, the initiative promoted shared learning, inclusion, and collective responsibility in the planning and implementation of environmentally conscious cultural events.
A strong focus was placed on regional cooperation and sustainable resource management, with most food, drinks, and infrastructure sourced locally in order to reduce transport routes and support to the regional economy. With an estimated audience of around 1,000 people, the celebration did not only create a meaningful cultural experience, but also encouraged other music associations and community festivals to adopt more sustainable and socially responsible practices.
