VALERIA BARBI
Environmental journalist and writer. Her main focus of investigation is biodiversity on its intersection between science, policy and communication. She is a naturalist and political scientist by training. She explored 5 continents and 44 countries to observe the behavior of other species and investigate the relationship between humans and nature. Author of “From Alaska to Patagonia: a journey through the most extraordinary ecosystems of the Planet (“Dall’Alaska alla Patagonia, viaggio attraverso gli ecosistemi più straordinari del Pianeta, 2025, Editori Laterza), “What is biodiversity today” (“Che cos’è la biodiversità, oggi”, 2022 Edizioni Ambiente), and WANE – We Are Nature Expedition, a reportage that took her into the field for 22 months to document the state of biodiversity and the relationship between humans and nature along the Pan-American Highway. Her articles have been published in various newspapers and magazines, including Lifegate, Pianeta 2030 in Corriere della Sera, La Rivista della Natura, and Materia Rinnovabile, and her reports have been broadcast on Rai 3. For GEO, she edits a column on biodiversity and biomimicry. Curator of the photography exhibition The Wild Line, which brings together the best photos of Davide Agati from the WANE reportage. She is responsible for communications at Salviamo L’Orso (Save the Bear) and is a member of the Communication and Education Commission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. She was named Colibrì d’onore (Honorary Hummingbird) by Save The Planet for her commitment to nature and is an ambassador for the European Climate Pact.
